LandMade will be taking place this year at the Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen St. W) on Sunday, Feb. 4 from 10-4.
It is free to everyone.

LandMade is a fibre event that aims to connect urban makers with local fibre farms. 10 farms will be bringing fleece, roving, yarn (hand-spun as well as mill spun) and batts from the animals they raise on their farms. They represent a wide variety of sheep breeds (including BFL, Corriedale, Romney, Icelandic, Shetland, and interesting crosses) as well as alpaca. Everything is available in natural colours, and there will be some dyed materials available also. Vendors all operate under the guidelines of the Upper Canada Fibreshed, which means that any dyeing is done using botanical, environmentally-responsible dyestuffs.

A spin-in and knit-in will be held on the ballroom stage, so people are welcome to bring their spindles and needles. There is also a cafe attached to the ballroom, where food and drinks are available for those wishing to visit afterwards.

LandMade is sponsored by the Upper Canada Fibreshed, and all of the participating farms are members.

At the October Guild meeting, Pat presented a beautiful scarf she had knitted, and shared the pattern designer’s tragic and impassioned story. Please find Pat’s description of her project below.

“I started knitting this scarf in January of 2016, following Jill McGee’s free basic recipe – “My Favourite Things Infinity Scarf.”  When I checked the website in the fall of 2016, looking for new charts, I saw that Jill had posted another scarf of her own, this one called “Remembering Jude, Stitch by Stitch”.  And I read the sad news that her son Jude had died of the flu. Two years, three months and 20 days old. Learn more about her advocacy for flu vaccinations at www.forjudeforeveryone.com. Please get your flu shot.  You may save a child’s life. Maybe the child of a knitter you don’t even know.”

We have drafted a constitution for the guild, and now it is time for our members to review it. You will be asked to ratify the constitution at the January 17 meeting, following the guidelines set out in Article 7.
