October – Kate Atherley
October 21, 2015 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Designer, teacher and technical editor Kate Atherley will be speaking on the topic of Math for Knitters. She’ll be sharing tips and techniques for handling the numbers problems that come up in knitting: from yarn requirements to buttonhole spacing and instructions like “increase 12 sts evenly across”, to questions of and issues around gauge. And if you’d rather knit than spend time with a calculator, she’ll also talk about ways to avoid the numbers entirely!
Kate holds a degree in Pure Mathematics from the University of Waterloo. She uses these skills as Knitty.com‘s Managing Technical Editor, and in her classes and design work. Her latest book Custom Socks: Knit to Fit Your Feet was released this summer by Interweave Press, to great acclaim. She regularly teaches at stores and events across North America, including Interweave YarnFest and Vogue Knitting Live. Her work has appeared in many books and magazines.

Kate has kindly shared with us her Math for Knitters (pdf) presentation.
