Thanks from Knitted Knockers

We received a letter of thanks from Nancy Thomson of Knitted Knockers:

Dear Toronto Knitters Guild,

On behalf of all of us here at Knitted Knockers of Canada we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generous donation of completed knockers for women in need across the country.  To date, we have mailed out over 1500 requests and it is groups like yours that continue to help us in getting knitted knockers out, not only by your contribution of the completed knitted knockers, but also by helping us to raise awareness that they are available!

We are going to be launching our Aqua Knockers for swimming in the next couple of weeks which will be made out of an acrylic yarn (instead of the cotton yarn used for the regular knitted knockers) as they will dry faster and only be worn for a short time. We are sure with summer upon us that there will be a huge demand for these ones!  Any donations of Aqua Knockers would be greatly appreciated to help us with the upcoming demand.

We are also constantly updating our drop off locations that you can source our preferred yarns and drop off you completed knockers, so keep an eye out on our website for the list of those LYS and any updates that happen . . . if you don’t see your favorite store on the list just let us know and we can reach out and see if we can get them to join us on this wonderful crusade.  You can check out the listing at www.knittedknockerscanada.com.

Finally, if anyone is interested, Knitted Knockers of Canada is hosting an event this coming Saturday for WWKIP day.  It is being held at Alpacas from Eighth and Mud, 232 Eighth Road East, Stoney Creek, Ontario L8J 3M2 from 11am to 1pm.  We will be knitting knockers and also stuffing knockers for those that want to help but don’t knit.  We will have refreshments, contests and prizes so we hope that you can join us to knit amongst the Alpacas!   If you would like more information or to sign up you can visit

Again, we cannot thank you all enough for your help, support and donations of knitted knockers that are helping so many women across Canada.  We could not do this without groups like yours and look forward to continuing this wonderful and worthwhile endeavor with you.

Knitted Knockers

Knitted Knockers

Knitted Knockers are special handmade breast prosthesis for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast. These soft, comfortable, lightweight prosthesis are available for FREE. Nancy Thompson, Founder of Knitted Knockers of Canada, was at the November 18th meeting to tell us more about this organization that promotes the making and distribution of the Knitted Knockers. The organization connects volunteer knitters with breast cancer survivors, and provides them with Knitted Knockers free of charge.

If you are looking for something different in terms of charity knitting, this could be for you.

The knockers are very quick to knit up and can be knit on a set of double pointed needles or using magic loop method on circular needles. There are also patterns for knitting on straight needles and then seaming, as well as a crocheted and a loom version. The most requested colours are neutral, but all colours are acceptable. Preferred yarn is Cascade Yarns Ultra Pima, but other similar smooth soft cotton yarns would work.

Completed knockers — unfilled — can be dropped off at these locations or brought to the next TKG meeting.
