Message from the President

Thank you to everyone who makes my position so much fun.

Our April meeting was a fabulous, extremely inspirational show and tell, and a wonderful presentation by Susan Fohr from the Textile Museum of Canada. There Is a growing interest in handmade and passing handiwork skills on to the next generation. Y-eh! We are all on that team!

Thank you to Carole, Joan, Fiona, Patrick, Vivian, Cindy, Kerry and the merry cast of volunteers, who made the 2016 Frolic the best ever! We are still waiting for the final numbers, but I think we welcomed more than 1800 happy frolicking shoppers (last year was 1500). Workshops were well attended, and quite a few sold out! Check out the Ravelry Frolic page to see happy stash enhancements!

I am still looking for executive members for next year, but don’t worry all loyal long standing members, we are working on a great program for next year. If you have any suggestions, we would love to hear them. If you are a new member, and want to get involved, please send me a note.

Knittingly yours,

Debra Rowland, TKG President

Congratulations to our 2016 Marketplace Door Prize winner Linda David!
Linda's prize was a lovely gift basket featuring Eucalan & Clover products generously donated by Eucalan.

Our heartfelt thanks to our wonderful team of volunteers who contributed many hours to make the 2016 Toronto Knitters Frolic a success! We could not have done this without you! Thank you!

Guild Member Show and Tell Spotlight

I came across the Henley Perfected pattern by Connie Chang Chinchio quite some time ago in a Knitting Daily 10 Free Lace Patterns ebook, and saved it for future use. When I discovered the yarn, Tristan from Knitting Fever, a Rayon and Linen blend in Sport weight, at Linda's Craftique, it spoke to me. I immediately went home and started the project, but had to put it aside when I reached the lace section as I was currently working on another lace pattern. I found that yo k2tog's were very confusing when used in different combinations on two separate projects.

The sweater is worked in pieces from the bottom up with a hem on the body and sleeves, so there was quite a bit of seaming to do. In my search for the perfect buttons, I made a swatch with a couple of button holes so that I could easily carry it in my purse for use in matching buttons to fabric. I found the perfect buttons in a very unlikely store . . .  a Linen and Gift Shop in Paris, Ontario. The buttonhole and button band extend down into the midriff, so I sewed it closed to keep the buttons from popping open to expose my shyer body parts.

I tried on the sweater before blocking, and had some doubts about the fit, but those doubts disappeared after blocking. I love wearing it and receive compliments whenever I do.
