SUMMARY:May - Carol Milne
DESCRIPTION:Carol Milne \nCarol Milne is the lone pioneer in the field of knitted glass. Pushing the limits of her material through persistent and relentless experimentation\, she developed a variation of the lost wax casting process to cast knitted work in glass. Combining her passion for knitting with her love for cast glass sculpture\, her knitted work is technically complicated and unlike any cast glass work being done today. \nI see my knitted work as metaphor for social structure. Individual strands are weak and brittle on their own\, but deceptively strong when bound together. You can crack or break single threads without the whole structure falling apart. And even when the structure is broken\, pieces remain bound together. The connections are what bring strength and integrity to the whole and what keeps it intact. \nTo see more of her work\, visit her website: www.carolmilne.com

SUMMARY:April - Fiona Ellis
DESCRIPTION:HOSIERY HISTORY — When a fashion trend debuts it can be shocking or at least unsettling to the common view of what constitutes appropriate attire. If however\, the look in question resonates with the contemporary thinking\, the trend becomes acceptable and widely adopted. Take tights for example. A glimpse of stocking was once\, as Cole Porter so aptly put it\, “simply shocking” but now we take the sight of Lycra-sheathed leg in stride. Fiona takes us through the history of stockings step by step. \nFiona Ellis graduated from DeMontfort University (England) with a degree in fashion knitwear design in 1993. Her work appears in leading magazine publications including on-line at Twist Collective\, and in yarn pattern booklets. She is the Designer in Residence at Web’s Yarns throughout 2015.\nShe has produced original concepts for major fashion houses in London\, Paris and New York. She is the author of Inspired Cable Knits\, Knitspiration Journal and Inspired Fair Isle Knits. She is also an instructor at Craftsy. You can find out what she is currently doing at www.fionaellisonline.com – check out her blog post there on the 9th of each month.
